Junya Watanabe 2020AW Asymmetrical Tailored Jacket

Junya Watanabe’s Fall/Winter 2020 womenswear collection presents a punk rock-inspired female image drawn from Debbie Harry, offering what can be interpreted as a counterpoint to overly polished notions of beauty. The combination of disparate materials and intentionally imperfect silhouettes emphasizes individuality and strength, reflecting a punk aesthetic. 

This jacket, also featured in the runway show, is designed through a hybrid construction combining faux leather and silk fabric. By threading the harness through the opposite shoulder from the one used to wear the jacket, the piece is engineered so that only one side can be worn, creating an unconventional silhouette. Alongside the use of materials such as leather and tartan checks, the conceptual approach and harness detailing further emphasize its punk-inspired aesthetic.
